Don't let God's will be done. That thought has crossed all of our minds at some point because sometimes Gods Will lead us down some really difficult paths. You know the kinds of paths that are going to have some sharp edges. Some paths that might give us a bump or two.

SEPTEMBER 15, 2019

I am always amazed at Gods timing. When I read this next passage this week I couldn't stop laughing, because we mapped out all of Acts well over a year ago. Now that God has called us to move closer to family, I have been having some final conversations with the elders.

Falling asleep during a sermon; I am sure we have all done it. Maybe it's because of the length of the sermon. Maybe it's because of the monotone voice. Maybe it's because you stayed up binge-watching Lord of the Rings. I am sure no one at Lifehouse has ever fallen asleep during one of my messages.

September 1, 2019

I titled this week's sermon, Money, Mobs and Missions because there is lots of drama in this week's passage, Acts 19:21-20:6. Lots of scary religious fervor, lots of greedy people willing to do anything to protect their livelihoods, a scary crowd, and some potentially dangerous situations.

August 25, 2019

How do you feel / think / react when you see, read about, or hear about miracles? Are you a skeptic? Do you believe they're always real and true? Maybe a mix of both? In this next passage, some interesting miracles take place, and as we learned from last week, it's important to make sure what we are teaching lines up with Scripture.

August 18, 2019

Some have the gift of teaching, some discernment, and some the gift of faith. But others in the church may have no clue what their spiritual gifts are. This is disheartening because it can lead them to wonder what purpose they have now.

August 11, 2019

We all have certain styles of teaching, preaching and writing we like. But at some point, it crosses the line from preference to a form of worship. As we continue on in Acts 18:24-28, we see why Paul is addressing the church concerning these matters back then.

August 4, 2019

"Lord willing, I'll be there". How often have we heard that or even said it? Even Paul says something very similar in this week's passage as he tells the Ephesians he will return "if it is God's will". What do we really mean when we say it? What did Paul really mean?

July 28, 2019

What do you fear? What are you afraid of? Often times we read Paul's journey, see all the "wins" and think, "wow, if only I could be as brave and courageous as Paul". But then, why does the Lord tell him "do not be afraid"? (Acts 18:9).

July 21, 2019

Last week we talked about how Paul had influence over communities he visited because he observed those communities and their culture first. We discussed how even today, by simply being there, knowing your community and paying attention, you may introduce people to an unknown God.

July 14, 2019

When we meet people in the community, we have an opportunity to participate in something God has already been doing in them. By simply being there, knowing your community and paying attention, you may introduce people to an unknown God.

God is at work, even in the disruption. Sometimes it is disruption around us, sometimes it's disruption that directly affects us. So where have we picked up the idea that disruption means that God is absent? We certainly don't get that idea from the book of Acts 16:25-40.

June 16, 2019

A few weeks ago we talked about disruption and about how we can expect disruptions in our lives when we are following Christ. When we are on mission for Jesus, we have to make room for both the miracle of salvation but also the disruption the message can cause.

Have you ever been cheered on one minute and then booed the next? Isn't amazing how fickle we are as a society. When our team wins the trophy we cheer, and then when they lose the entire season, we boo. What's it like when we share Jesus?

Does it drive you nuts when someone doesn't get what you are trying to say? When you make attempt after attempt to persuade them to your belief or thought of Scripture? What about you? Do you understand the Truth of Jesus Gospel? Are you more concerned about others than you are yourself?

"Hurry! Get your tickets NOW for Avenger's Endgame in theaters April 26, 2019!!" The final installment of the current Avenger's movie franchise is getting plenty of attention. Our society seems obsessed with the Superhero movies. This current group of Marvel Avengers movies started in May, 2008.

"While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them" Acts 13:2 Much like a whisper in a crowded place, we cannot hear the Spirit speaking unless we intentionally take time to slow ourselves down from our busy lives and listen.

Do you have a chair that you just love? A couch, a recliner, a massage chair? Does it drive you nuts when someone else sits in it? There is something about our chair. It has a certain feel, texture and presence that it offers. It knows us. It's ours.

March 3, 2019

Have you ever wondered why God allows trials to happen? Why He would allow James the disciple to die and free Peter from Prison? Does God play favorites or is there something else at work?

February 24, 2019

What does your prayer life look like? Does it depend on your circumstances? Your relationships? Your personal possessions? (or lack thereof?) What does it take for us to get the kind of prayer life that the church had in Acts 12:5?

February 17, 2019

If you could come up with some creative ways to get people to come to Lifehouse, what would they be? New parking lot, better location, increase signage, give out money? How did the church in Antioch grow? What did Barnabas and the Jerusalem church do to help it grow?

February 10, 2019

How to do we overcome the things that divide us? How do we make sure there are no second class citizens in God's family? We'll discuss seeking reconciliation and avoiding division, this Sunday in Acts 11:1-18.

February 3, 2019

What scares you the most about the Holy Spirit? Being out of control? Receiving strange gifts? Fear of the unknown? Join us this Sunday as we find out the Holy Spirits role and how it can play a HUGE part in our lives if we allow Him to be God.

Does God love one person more than another? Did He love Paul more than Peter? Does He love you more than me? In this next passage of Acts we learn where Jesus stands between Jew and Gentile. Join us as we paint a larger picture of Christ this Sunday in Acts 10:34-43.

January 20, 2019

Lets be real. What do I mean by being real? We all have prejudices in our life and this Sunday we can lay them at the foot of Jesus cross. The Apostle Peter had prejudices against Cornelius and the Gentiles and yet God was carefully breaking down those barriers to allow the Gospel of Jesus to be spread.

January 13, 2019

Do you find yourself taking the path of least resistance in certain situations? In your faith? In life? With today's "Your truth is your truth" dilemma, is there such thing as God's Truth? Join us this Sunday as we see how God sends a vision to Cornelius (A Gentile) before he heard the Gospel in Acts 10:1-10.

How calm are you in life's circumstances? Are you the same at home as you are at church or at work? Do you allow things to creep in and get under your skin or do you find a peace that goes way beyond human understanding?

Peace..... what a word. Can mankind actually attain peace in this life? Could an election, vote, or war bring peace to this world? What did God mean that Jesus would be the "Prince of Peace?" Did He bring peace or did he create more confusion for Israel?

November 25, 2018

Nobody has a sense of hopeful expectation when they get out of bed for an average day of work. Why? Because work typical. It's average. It's normal. It's routine. But, the idea at advent is that we are preparing ourselves out of sense of hope.

When God asks you to give, how do you react? Are you excited? Cheerful? Saddened? What if God asked you to sell it all and give it to His ministry? Can we understand the kind of giving that Jesus comes to expect? I have heard the expression before, "Give till it hurts."

Fight, Freeze or Flight. Which one of those are you? Where does boldness come from? What changes in our heart and minds to stand up for what we believe in? What if we are under fire or pressure, does boldness stay?

When you come across someone who is homeless, do you give alms to them? Have you ever stopped and asked them their name? Share a meal with them? Listen to their story? This Sunday we find two disciples who do more than give alms - they bring Jesus.

If you could speak another language fluently, what language would you choose? Where have you seen God's powerful presence at work in your life? Can you remember the last time He showed up in a big way? This Sunday we are examining Acts 2, where God's power shows up and suddenly people are speaking other native tongues.

Whose power is it when your distant neighbor begins to ask questions? Whose power is it when someone feels a deep sense of conviction to change the trajectory of their life? Whose power is it that took a group of rag tag men, called the disciples, to get mobilized the reach the ends of the earth with the Gospel?

Who wrote the book of Acts? Who was Acts written to? What was the context and history? These questions and more will be answered in the coming weeks. My hope for us as we study Acts together: 1.We will listen for the echoes of history - that we will hear how the story of God is being brought to fulfillment in the church.
