Groups FAQs

  • Life Groups are TLC’s small groups of 8-15 people who meet together weekly around our community to spend time discussing interesting and important questions related to the sermon topic and text, and they are a safe place to meet new people, build friendships, ask questions, grow in faith, serve others, and have fun. Each group meets once a week for about 1.5 hours. We have a variety of groups to choose from and different groups meet on different days and in different locations making it easier to find a group that will work for you.

  • Each group will meet for about 10-12 weeks each quarter. We have a Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters (Summers we take a little break). At the end of each quarter, you have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a new group or even taking a break. Most groups stay together throughout the entire year. The time between each quarter (about 5-6 weeks), our group leaders and members can rest, new leaders can be raised up, and new groups can be launched.

  • Here at TLC, Life Groups are the hub of our ministry and the main way to get connected. These groups are a great place for

    • CONNECTING WITH OTHERS – Your group will be a great way to meet new people and build healthy relationships.

    • GROWING TOGETHER – Through your group you can experience spiritual, emotional, professional, and intellectual growth.

    • SERVING OTHERS – Your group will be a rewarding place to discover your specific gifts and to use them in serving others inside and outside the group through sharing responsibilities and engaging in an outreach project.

    • HAVING FUN – With a busy schedule, it can be hard to find time to just have fun.  Your group will have this opportunity by doing fun social events together and engaging in encouraging conversations.

  • Life Groups meet on various nights of the week, some at homes and some at TLC.

  • Joining a Life Group requires a 10-week commitment to attend weekly meetings and be an active, engaged participant in the group discussions. Obviously, allowances are made for sickness, vacation, work conflicts and other special events, but not much more. This commitment is the key to building and maintaining a strong group. You have the first three weeks to attend the group to make sure it’s a good fit for you.

  • Life Groups are mainly for adults only. (Exceptions can be made for nursing newborns). We leave it up to each family to work out their own childcare. Sometimes it works best for families to share a sitter or to swap childcare with another family whose group meets on a different evening. We have safe and reliable childcare available at the church on Wednesday nights (6:30 -8:00 PM).

  • Most of the studies are based on the previous weekend’s sermon topic and text. Our hope is that all of us will read the passage of Scripture on our own to form a basic understanding of what it says, listen to the sermon to hear some additional thoughts on it, and then spend time in the group discussions applying what we’re learning to our everyday life. Each week there will be a series of questions (7-8) on the back of the sermon notes sheet to help us discover what the passage says, discuss what it means, and do what it says. It will usually take 20 minutes per week to complete these discussions questions, which we encourage you to complete prior to your group meeting.

  • Few things in life are free and LIFEgroups are no exception! But the cost is not monetary. It’s one of commitment. Along with prioritizing the weekly group meetings, each quarter the group will engage in at least one social event and one service project. So, when you join a Life Group, you’re committing to share your time and life with others in the group. It’s this commitment that makes the groups work. We realize it’s a big commitment, but it only lasts for about 10-12 weeks. At the end of each quarter, you have the choice of recommitting for another, trying a new group, or taking a break.
